Apple and bacon mac & cheese

This mac and cheese is the perfect sweet and salty combo!!

Ingredients:
  • 500G uncooked macaroni
  • 1 lb. diced cooked bacon
  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 3 Tbsp flour
  • 3 cups milk (or substitute)
  • 3 cups sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3 tsp smoked paprika
  • 4 cups diced peeled apples
  • Chives (a lot) to taste
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup panko
  • Salt, pepper to taste
  • Onion and nutmeg (optional) to taste


Steps:
  1. Cook the pasta according to the instructions.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan.
  3. Add the flour and whisk the flour and butter to make a roux.
  4. Once the butter and flour are slightly toasting, slowly add the milk and whisk until all the flour chunks are fully dissolved in the sauce.
  5. Over low heat, add the cheese and mix until fully melted.
  6. Add the bacon, apple, and seasoning, and transfer to an oven-safe container.
  7. Place in the oven to broil until golden, enjoy hot.
  8. Makes 6 to 8 portions. Can be kept in the fridge for a few days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
